In the first instalment of “small things that matter” I want to encourage you to do a very tiny thing with a big effect. Enormous effect if you ask me. Are you ready?
Every morning when you shower, once you are done with all the things you do under the shower, turn the water to the coldest setting and be there.
I can hear you asking: Cold water? Are you crazy? I love my hot showers! I know I know, I too love my hot showers. But here is the deal. We are not going cold turkey! We will ease into this new habit. This is your chance to start each and every day with a win over your lazy comfy self. And I promise you the feeling you get right after this ritual is amazing. I am not a medical Dr. but I hear cold showers are good for the immune system as well. In 2016, the first year I have regularly done the cold shower thing, my immune system was great. I was able to skip all the regular cold cycles despite having one child in kindergarten and one in elementary school.
Also, I encourage you to listen to the types of thoughts you are having while the cold water is rushing down. I bet they are different from your usual thoughts. Mine are much more aggressive and full of expletives. A side of me that I keep very well in check 😉 And right after the adrenaline has flooded my system I feel great. I feel like a million bucks. And that friends is the way I want to start every day.
Now, I was able to get up the 30 seconds in the freezing shower, I am aiming for 2 minutes though.
